CHT Journal Desk: A 55-year-old man died with novel coronavirus symptoms at Rangamati General Hospital’s ‘Isolation Unit’ early hour on Monday.
The man from Rupnagar slum in the district town was admitted at general ward (male) at Rangamati General Hospital with fever, cold, coughing and respiratory problems few days ago. On suspicion of coronavirus infection, the man was taken to isolation unit of Covid-19 by the physicians.
“We have collected swab sample of the deceased and sent it to Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) in Chattogram for Covid-19 test,” said Bipas Khisa, Rangamati district civil surgeon.
Dead body will be buried in accordance with the rules of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) upon receiving of report, said Dr. Mostafa Kamal, designated officer for Covid-19 in the civil surgeon office.

Bangladesh reports 3 more coronavirus deaths, 35 test positive in 24hrs: DGHS
Three more died of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, DGHS said today.
This is the highest number of deaths in a day so far in the country. The death toll now stands at 12.
Thirty-five people have tested positive for Covid-19 in last 24 hours, Prof Abul Kalam Azad, director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said during a briefing.
With this, the total number of infected has reached 123.
Among the newly infected, 11 are 41-50 years old and six are 21-30 years old, said Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora, director of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), during the press briefing.
Thirty of them are male, she also said.
Dhaka city has the highest number of infected in the country so far. A total of 64 among the 123 infected patients are from here, the IEDCR director also said.
The second highest, a total of 23 infected patients, are in Narayanganj. Among the 35 infected in the last 24 hours, 12 are from Narayanganj, she added.
“There are cases of cluster transmission in Narayanganj,” Dr Meerjady said.
3 more die of coronavirus, 58 new cases in 24 hours: Health minister
Bangladesh on Saturday reported three more deaths from coronavirus and 58 new cases on Saturday.
“In the last 24 hours, 58 people tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 482 in the country,” health minister Zahid Maleque said in the daily health bulletin broadcast.
A total of 954 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, he said.
The death toll from coronavirus climbed to 30.
Minister Maleque said Dhaka’s Mirpur, Basabo and Narayangaj have so far reported as the most infected regions of the country.
He urged everyone to stay home.
The global death toll from coronavirus reached 102,789 as of Saturday.
There have been 1,700,870 confirmed cases around the world after the highly contagious disease was first reported in China in December last year, according to worldometer.
Of those infected, 1,221,285 are currently being treated with 49,835 being in serious or critical condition.
The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on 11 March.
